- Description of Executive Branch/Powers- The executive branch consists of the president, the cabinet, and the prime minister. The president holds the most power and has the ability to make and dissolve treaties and even to declare war; in times of desperation he can also assume the role of dictator. The prime minister runs the day-to-day government for the president, he is the president's direct subordinate; in addition, the prime minister directs the legislative branch and introduces legislation for the executive branch. The cabinet has to approve all bills and some decrees.
- Description of Legislative Branch/Powers- France has a bicameral Parliament, composed of the representatives selected by the french people; it has a strict set of rules imposed on it forcing it to act as quickly and effectively as possible. Amendments to bills and other laws passed through parliament have to meet very strict and specific criteria or they are forbidden. In addition, parliament is only allowed six standing committees at any one time.
